The FSPro Labs-developed application, the aptly named Lock My PC, aims to protect your computer from unauthorized access. It aims to give you piece of mind by putting your computer on lockdown and thus ensuring someone else doesn’t start snooping around on your computer when you’re not around.

Lock My PC allows you to manually put your computer on lockdown or it automatically puts your computer on lockdown when you don’t bother to do it manually. By lockdown I mean the application disables hotkeys (Alt + Ctrl + Del included), disables the mouse, locks CD and DVD doors, and displays a lock screen on the monitor.

The computer is taken out of lockdown only when the correct password is provided. Since you are the only one who knows the password, only you will be able to unlock the computer. The next time you go have a cup of coffee and a donut in the break room, you won’t find Bob messing about on your computer when you return.

How does Lock My PC differ from the built-in computer lock feature in Windows? First of all, the default lock feature can be bypassed by anyone with administrative privileges; Lock My PC cannot be bypassed. Furthermore Lock My Pc comes with custom lock screens, Lock My PC displays unsuccessful unlock attempts (so you’ll know if Bob tried to mess about), Lock My PC can be used in multi-user mode (a supervisor can unlock the computer without closing the user’s session), Lock My PC can lock CD/DVD doors, the keyboard and the mouse.

Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, the application provides support for Windows Server 2003 and 2008, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
Limitations – you can use Lock My PC free of charge for a trial period of 30 days. Once that trial period is over you will have to purchase a license to keep using it.
